TAMPERE AND THE REGATTA SITE
Tampere is an industrial city of 200.000 inhabitants, 180 km north
of
Helsinki. It is the third largest city in Finland, the total area being
679 km2 (land area 521 km2,
water area 158 km2). The city is located in
the joining point of big water routes.
The Regatta Site
Lake Kaukajärvi is situated about 7 km east of the city. The
largest width of the lake is some 800 m, the largest length 3 km
and total area around 1,5 km2. The largest
depth is nearly 30 m, the average depth being some 15 m. – The
lane is in bright sweet water, with no water flow. There is no ship
traffic on the lake either.
Launching ang landing
At the western end of the lake Kaukajärvi there is one platform
for the launching and another platform for the landing (plan of the
cource, numbers 2 and 4).
Areas for the Public
In the immediate vicinity of the goal, there are seats for approx.
550
people amd, in addition to that, other premises for the public with
space for over 1,000 people. A kiosk amd restrooms, for both the public
and the rowers, are situated close to the spectator stand. The parking
lot is to the north of the Kangasala highway where also the
boat-transport devices shall be kept throughout the Regatta.
